Immunizations

Missouri Child Care and Preschool Immunization Requirements /No Exemptions

All students are required to be in full compliance with the State of Missouri Department of Health & Human Services immunization laws. Abounding Love Preschool will not accept exemption forms for children who are not fully immunized. If your child should contract a communicable disease we need to be notified as soon as possible.  We have a responsibility to notify the other parents of the possible exposure.

We have a responsibility to exercise due diligence to minimize communicable disease exposure in the school setting. We will maintain fluent communications with parents and staff on a need to know basis in regards to exposure risks that may incidentally occur in the school setting.  It is our desire to ensure a safe and healthy environment that fosters the well-being of all.

COVID 19 Policies and Procedures

Abounding Love Preschool will remain in compliance with all orders issued by: Jackson County Health Department, Missouri Office of the Childhood, and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Whenever mandated we will be following masking orders. When not under mask orders by the Health Department we will follow CDC recommendations for the health and safety of our staff.

Should your family be impacted by a COVID 19 diagnosis, it is important to communicate with Abounding Love immediately. You may contact our director Stephaniewood@abounding-love.com or call the school office at 816-524-7288. COVID 19 protocols for quarantining change over time, Abounding Love will follow whatever is mandated by our licensing agencies. Because individuals in either the school or church could be immune compromised (cancer, autoimmune disease, etc.) we feel a strong commitment to keeping them safe.

At this time Abounding Love does not mandate the COVID 19 vaccine for our staff but we do encourage it. Abounding Love Preschool and Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church will not release to families the vaccination status of any employee.

Illness Guidelines and Procedures

If your child becomes ill during school hours he/she will be cared for by Abounding Love staff until a parent or emergency contact has picked up the child. We have set in place guidelines we must follow when a child is feeling ill.

We consider a child sick when any of the following examples of symptoms are present: concerning skin lesions, rashes, swollen glands, eyes with colored discharge, diarrhea, vomiting, or if a fever is suspected.

•   Temperature of 100.4 or more

•   Vomiting

•   Diarrhea

•   Ear infections or an earache

•   Red or inflamed eyes

•   Red or swollen joints

•   Persistent cough (let Director know of a Chronic Cough i.e. Asthma or Allergy induced)

•   Sore throat or swollen glands

•   Loss of taste or smell

•   Skin rash (unless documented by a healthcare provider not to be contagious)

If there is not a fever, but the child is feeling ill, our staff will do a courtesy call to let the parent know. If a child is ill with the following please do not send him/her to school.

After an Illness When Can a Child Return

·       Fever: Your child should not come to school if he or she has run fever (100.4 degrees or higher) within the past 24 hours.

·       Nausea or vomiting:  Children need to stay home from school if they have vomited within the past 24 hours. If your child vomits at school they cannot return the next day. Example:  if your child has vomited at school on a Monday, they cannot return until Wednesday. If they are nauseous and not eating or drinking they should not attend school.

Daily Infection Control

Hand Washing: Children will be asked to wash hands each day upon arrival. They will then wash hands after each bathroom break, before snack time, lunch, and anytime the teacher deems it necessary.  The children will be taught proper hand washing techniques.

Routine Cleaning and Sanitizing:  Abounding Love follows a three step cleaning and disinfection schedule used throughout the day. We use water to eliminate debris, then we use soapy water followed by a bleach and water solution. Teachers clean and sanitize frequently touched objects such as tables, chairs, playing materials, learning and teaching aids.  We keep our classroom clean and sanitized throughout the day including the bathrooms. Students and teachers wash their hands frequently, after touching surfaces and before eating. We teach children to avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth, cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the waste bin. Students, teachers and non- teaching staff are advised to use reusable drinking water bottles and avoid sharing cups or glasses. These should be cleaned and disinfected at the end of each day at the household level by parents or guardians.

Basic First Aid and Medical Emergencies

Every injury or illness (small or large) will be treated with care and compassion. We will do what we can to provide as much comfort as possible and ease any fears and worries the child may have. We have basic first aid products available in each classroom.

When a child is injured under our supervision we will record the injury and care on an incident report and communicate the injury and care provided with the parent. We will ask you to initial the report and upon request will provide a parent copy.  In the event of a serious life or limb threatening injury, 911 will be called and you will be contacted immediately. Please make sure we have correct phone numbers for emergency contacts in the event that you cannot be reached. In the event of:

Lunch and Peanut/Tree Nut-Free Policy

Parents will provide a peanut/tree nut-free sack lunch for their child which does not require heating or other preparation. The child should be able to manage opening and eating food on their own. In an effort to provide a safe eating environment for all students, items containing peanuts or a possibility of peanut traces will be discarded into a separate receptacle outside of the classroom. Students will be expected to finish nutritional food items in their lunch before candy or dessert items will be allowed. We ask that parents pack a cool pack in the lunch bag if food requires it. Lunch will be served at approximately 12:00 pm in the classroom.  Please do not send carbonated beverages with your child.

In our school we may have children with severe allergies and we ask all parents to exclude snacks that contain ANY NUT.  This is vital so that all of our children are in a safe environment.  Carefully read each label before sending it to class.

SEVERE ALLERGY STUDENTS

Parents of children with severe allergies are asked to send extra snacks to school with their child. This is just in case the child forgets a daily snack so that the teacher can provide an appropriate snack knowing all ingredients are allergen free. These snacks are kept separate from the others and marked with the child’s name.
